Academic coaching can address a wide variety of concerns whether you are in high school or college. I have taught at Boston College for 31 years and have also worked as a Learning Specialist at the school and have worked as a mentor to graduate students teaching for the first time. I am familiar with the stumbling blocks that students experience in their educational careers and can help you to move to a successful academic experience. You could benefit from academic coaching if:
- You feel that you are not getting the results you expect for all of the energy you have put into your academic work
- You have difficulty managing your personal, social and academic lives and it is hurting your grades
- Your learning style seems different than others around you and you have difficulty understanding the material in your classes.
- You feel lost in all of the work that is expected of you.
- You did well in high school, but college level work feels out of your reach
- You have returned to school after a break and feel “out of the loop” and doubt your abilities
- You have difficulty keeping your focus when doing your work
- You are worried that you really will not succeed in the academic arena and are afraid to ask for help fearing others will know you really don’t belong
- You are new to graduate school and feel a bit out of step
